Once upon a time (back in 1930), Herm Fisher thought the world needed better toys. Toys that “appeal to the imagination, that do something new and surprising and funny.”
So he joined forces with Irving Price and Helen Schelle (who didn’t get her name in the logo. Sorry, Helen). Their first line of toys was called “16 hopefuls,” and included a couple of darling ducks.
Since then, Fisher-Price has kept the original vision of those founders in mind. Along the way, they introduced what’s now known as baby gear – all the stuff that makes baby showers worth having, and adds comfort, security, and convenience to the lives of new parents and babies.
Safety
Squeals of delight, sighs of contentment, giggles of joy… those are some of the reactions we hope for from families using our baby gear and toys. There’s a less visible one, too: peace of mind. “Parents have trusted us for more than 80 years to provide safe products for their children, but we know we must still earn their trust every day,” says Kitty Pilarz, Vice President of Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance at Fisher-Price. “So, right from the start of a design concept, we work to make sure our products are as safe as they can be.”
Research & Development
From seeing your baby’s delight when she first grasps a toy, to watching the wonder of a preschooler’s imagination, it’s easy to see how significant play is for a child’s development. Making products that live up to that importance — that teach, captivate, encourage and delight — is what Fisher-Price is all about. How do we know what toys are right for a child? How do we match developmental features with the ages and abilities of children? How do we make sure a toy will be fun to play with, encouraging imagination while helping develop new skills? It’s simple, really: we consult the experts. Children (and their parents) who come to play at our onsite Play Lab.
